‘Murmures du Mistral’ (main image, above) is inspired by the textures and colours of the sun-soaked South of France, where Jeandedieu grew up. In tones of ochre and terracotta (or a cooler palette of blue and beige), it is enhanced by hand-applied gold leaf.

Embossed on Casamance’s ‘Firminy’ chenille, ‘Danse des Sampans’ (below) is loosely based on the sails of the traditional junk boats that once plied Hong Kong’s harbour. Their distinctive red fan-shaped sails are the perfect subject matter for Jeandedieu’s ‘oscillation’ technique, which creates wave-like patterns with a loose rhythm that shows the hand of the maker. It comes in four colours – including the rust-red for which those original Hong Kong junks are known – and can be repeated infinitely.
