Christopher Hodsoll is a legendary name in the world of antiques. The dealer and decorator appears regularly on lists of the UK’s best designers, and has a client roster that includes royals, celebrities and collectors. His latest move taps into his personal archive – a capsule collection of fabrics for George Spencer Designs.
A loose theme of botanical motifs has allowed for plenty of variety within the four designs. ‘Meadow Flower’ is a wide stripe formed by delicate wildflowers and butterflies; ‘Arabesque’ looks like a fine line drawing of flowers and foliage; ‘Palm House’ brings a tropical touch, its palm trees framed set within decorative stripes; and ‘Hawthorn’ is a pretty small-scale print of scattered leaves.

“We’ve revisited some of our favourite heritage motifs, playing with scale and refreshing the colours. I’m absolutely thrilled with the results,” says Hodsoll of the collection. The fabrics are suitable for drapery or light upholstery, and are made from 100% linen (in the case of ‘Arabesque’) or a cotton/linen mix.
Harmony is derived from a distinctive palette including saffron, sage, rust and chocolate. These are colours that feel right at home in Hodsoll’s world, with its exquisitely chosen antiques, confident mix of old and new, and treasures that look as if they have been collected over a lifetime (or several).
