The Stamp of Approval

One of the US’s most revered decorating brands, Schumacher has an ethos for joyful, uplifting colour and pattern that is a match made in heaven with British textile designer Molly Mahon’s hand-block prints. Her latest collection for the brand, Greencombe, is a celebration of verdant English gardens and wild flowers, from luscious strawberries to dainty primroses alongside abstract designs inspired by trellises and pathways. Pictured above (left to right) are ‘Strawberry’, ‘Dianthus’ and ‘Tulip’.

Hand-block prints have a charm that is hard to equal, with each stamped shape having a subtly different appearance. Mahon’s textiles are designed in her studio in East Sussex, but made in India, where the tradition for hand-blocking goes back centuries. As part of Artefact’s Artisan Trail, she will be in the Schumacher showroom, demonstrating this ancient technique, discussing the inspirations behind Greencombe and offering visitors the chance to have a go themselves. See her in action on Friday 25 June (10am – 11am), or watch her fabrics being made in the video below.
