THE BEAUTY OF LIGHTING: BACK TO NATURE

Location: Eccotrading Design London, Ground Floor, Design Avenue

The latest lighting trends for 2021 from Eccotrading Design London incorporate natural materials, including terracotta, marble, bronze, ceramic and papier-mâché. Get the inside track on how these luminous lights are inspired by the eclectic renaissance of superb craftsmanship and simplified, modern forms. Discover how they can enhance a scheme, transforming a space by bringing warmth, texture and ambience.

LIVE TALK: THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF LIGHT –  FOCUS ON DECORATIVE LIGHTING

Lighting expert Rebecca Weir has worked on an array of award-winning luxury lifestyle projects, including hotels, restaurants and private members’ clubs worldwide. Seize the chance to hear how she brings the intangible resource of light to life, as she shares how it can transform the way a space looks, feels and functions. With an emphasis on decorative lighting, gain illuminating tips and inspiring insider tricks on ways to integrate and customise this essential element in interior design.

LIGHTING AS OBJECTS OF DESIRE

Location: Alexander Lamont, Second Floor, South Dome

Take a tour of key pieces from Alexander Lamont’s unique lighting collection. Handcrafted in his atelier in Thailand, they are made using exquisite materials including bronze, shagreen, eggshell, straw marquetry and parchment. Find out how these sculptural pieces, inspired by the 1940s to  1970s, create a visual statement and get decorating tips on how to use them in projects.

Join director Charlie Bowles as he explores how lights made from bone china are the perfect lighting solution. Translucent ceramics create a warm glow. In this session get the inside track on how they are made and gain tips on how use them to enhance a softer mood. Original BTC was the first manufacturer to use bone china in lighting. Its unassumingly elegant designs are still made in its factory in Stoke-on-Trent and are synonymous with its best-loved pieces.

LIVE TALK: INSPIRED BY LIGHT

Sally Storey, creative director of John Cullen Lighting, will share the secrets behind her new book Inspired by Light. It showcases the most up-to-date information on trending lighting technologies that aim to transform how light is used in the home. Sally will inspire you on how to apply her toolbox of techniques and put them into practice along with a delve into one of the case studies from the book.

ART DECO INFLUENCE IN LIGHTING AND DESIGN

Bella Figura’s decorative lighting style is inherently inspired by the Art Deco era; linear, timeless and utterly chic. In this session, take a journey through the brand’s distinctive designs of strong stylistic influence with a clear contemporary direction to discover how this informed the new Moonlight collection – devised to adorn your living spaces.
Ross Lloyd walks us through highlights from recent collections which embody the Art Deco movement to show us why this style will never fall out of favour.

Simpsons is well known for its bespoke designs for furniture and mirrors. Join Alex Yardy as he shares insights into the new lighting collection and the amazing choice of finishes that are on offer. From luxurious leathers to mirror and metallics, discover how decorative lighting can bring character, style and individuality to a room.

A BRIEF HISTORY: FAMILY, LIGHTING AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

Date: Wednesday 24 November, 3pm

Location: David Hunt Lighting, Third Floor, Centre Dome

David Hunt Lighting has a rich heritage that goes back 10 generations. Join showroom manager Nicola Kemplay for a talk delving into the history of the renowned British company, which dates back to the 1600s, to its current workshop in the Cotswolds. Discover how it preserves traditional techniques in lighting design that link the past to the present.

THE MARRIAGE OF INTERIOR AND LIGHTING DESIGN

Date: Wednesday 24 November, 3.30pm

The marriage of the interior and the lighting designer is a decidedly modern one. Join lighting guru Tim Henderson and award-winning interior designer Monique Tollgård as they explore the pitfalls and pleasures of this relationship and discuss how to get light right.

THURSDAY 25 NOVEMBER 

LAMPSHADE TALK WITH LUCY VAUGHAN

Date: Thursday 25 November, 12pm

Location: Vaughan, Ground Floor, Design Centre East

Lucy Vaughan will be holding a mini tutorial discussing lampshades. She will focus on the importance of taking time to select the perfect lampshade, giving valuable insight into how to choose the perfect size and style of lampshade to complement a lamp base through to suggestions on layering colour with patterned lampshades.

LIGHT ON MATERIALS

Date: Thursday 25 November, 4-6pm

Location: Gallotti&Radice, Second Floor, Centre Dome

Join Gallotti&Radice for an Italian aperitivo to discover how its designs exhibited at Lighting by Design were all born from the company’s unique reinterpretation of materials in a contemporary key. Follow the journey of experimentation and learn from the designers how the material has influenced the design of the product itself.
