Golden Age

Phillip Jeffries’ ‘Gilded Ascent’ wallcovering brings some unashamed glamour to interiors, but behind the opulence lies a fascinating story of artisanship. It’s made in a Japanese family-owned mill that has practiced the art of gilding for more than a century: gold, silver or pewter leaf is applied with a traditional technique that uses chopsticks. To make the wallcoverings more durable, they are then coated, and sealed with a resin finish, making the finished product wipeable as well as resistant to oxidisation.

‘Gilded Ascent’ has a companion product made in the same way, ‘Gilded Grid’, which has a loose chequerboard pattern, with both showing off their outstanding craftsmanship with every gleam and glow.
