Decorative Nature
As part of Artefact, the Design Centre’s first contemporary craft fair, Colony has partnered with online gallery Objekti to show some eye-catching ceramics from Mexico in its showroom window.
Based on the shape of pineapples and pinecones, the pieces demonstrate a mastery of sculpting in clay, made with techniques such as incision, appliqué and openwork. Some are studded with more than a 150 small rosettes, with equally elaborate carved lids. After the objects are sculpted, multicoloured glazes are applied over multiple firings to give them lustrous finish.
Objekti is a side-project of Schumacher president Benjamin Frowein and his sister in law Miriam Frowein, a London-based interior designer.
See them in the Colony showroom until the end of June.
