Cloth of Gold
Fabrics with pure gold thread woven into them once adorned the homes – and clothing – of the very wealthiest Venetian noble families. In homage to a near-lost art, Rubelli Venezia has revived this technique as part of its latest collection. ‘Aurum’, has a silk warp and a silk and gold weft to create a luxuriously shimmering textile. “We found our own way to create the worn, oxidised effect,” says studio director Alberto Pezzato, who explains how the gold will gently dull over time: “It’s part of its beauty that it changes.”
