Design Centre Stories

Blog Award Winner

Edinburgh-based designer Mairi Helena’s coverage of London Design Week 2018 has won the show’s Blogger Award. Given to the blog post that sums up the show’s theme – the rise of individuality and creative expression – Mairi’s insightful report picked up on trends such as bright pastels and nature-inspired prints, and enthused about the ‘Legends’ showroom windows (such as Colony, pictured) and about the power of collaboration.

“Wandering around the Design Centre and taking in the wonderful showroom windows, I suddenly felt reassured. Because as a result of this collaboration and fusion of creative minds, the design world in which I am delighted to be a part of is remaining fantastically exciting and wonderfully diverse,” wrote Mairi. “It embraces individuality and originality. Which is wonderful to see as increasingly we are seeing the need to create a space that is unique to ourselves, reflects who we are and importantly, tells a story. Collaboration is encouraging us to be more daring with design – we are open to being playful and not playing safe.”

The judges were Jenny Gibbs from the KLC School of Design, interiors journalist Fiona McCarthy, and Scott Maddux of Maddux Creative, all of whom felt that the blog covered a lot of ground, with informative writing balanced with visual flair. Read the full post here.
