The Roar of the Wild

Unleash your animal instinct with the menagerie of beasts that are gracing interiors. While animal prints – from snakeskin to leopard – are considered classic designs that can inject a bold sensuality to a scheme, they have been supplemented by a veritable Noah’s Ark of animal motifs. Cole & Son’s collaboration with South African design firm Ardmore leads the pack with monkeys, rhinos, elephants and leopards leaping off its wallpapers (pictured top is ‘Savuti’), while Wired Custom Lighting’s ‘Papillon’ chandelier (picture centre) is a cascade of glass butterflies. For classic animal prints, Schumacher’s designs (available from Turnell & Gigon) are, it says, “stylish, timeless and just the right amount of sexy,” with bold snakeskin (‘Snake Rattle and Roll’, pictured bottom) and zebra as well as patterns with a more abstract, painterly look for when greater subtlety is called for.
