The Twinkle of Christmas 2015
NATIONAL TREASURE MARY BERRY TURNS ON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
National treasure Mary Berry CBE, the doyenne of family cookery and queen of cakes and deserts, switched on the Christmas lights at a magical evening at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour in London.
Warmly welcomed by a huge crowd, she brought seasonal good cheer to the evening by illuminating the glass domes in Europe’s premier design centre with thousands of twinkling lights. Now in its sixth year, the event is an annual tradition and was attended by top designers and high profile stylesetters.
‘I love Christmas’ said Mary. ‘It’s the time to get the family together and I never wish to be away for it. For me, it’s all about Christmas at home.’
I’m very excited to be here for The Twinkle of Christmas,’ explains Mary. ‘Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is a one-stop-shop with everything you need. It’s a great resource for decorating your home – I found my fabrics and wallpapers here.’
Every element of The Twinkle of Christmas was carefully designed by a skilled team to evoke the enchantment of Christmas. A fairytale white birch forest entrance set the mood while the aerial installation of cascading lights and snow clouds worked in harmony with the Design Centre architecture. Inspired by the idea of storytelling, one-of-a kind miniature scenes were meticulously created to delight and surprise. Well-loved tales such as ‘The Night Before Christmas’, ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘The Nutcracker’ were brought to life as bespoke, interactive vignettes. The tiny treasures within offered a fascinating window into the diminutive world of an elves’ factory, Father Christmas at home and a frost-covered wood. A sleigh flying over a cut-out of London’s famous skyline added a final flourish.
